After suffering many injuries as an athlete through the years, I started practicing yoga, which made my body feel better. I also felt like there was some spiritual aspect to the yoga practice. Over time, an inner awareness developed and I was able to observe how I was responding in life. This was happening at all levels of my being, not just the physical aspects. My concentration has been in the areas of asana and yoga psychology. I continue to study with senior international teachers within the lineage of Krishnamacharya. My interest in therapeutic yoga is complimented by my background in rehabilitation and working in the physical therapy field. As a psychotherapist, I use yoga philosophy to facilitate people's development of a stronger relationship with themselves as it relates to vitality and well-being.

She came to yoga to heal a very busy mind as well as chronic illness, lower back pain, and a shoulder injury. Melisa focuses on explaining the 'whys' regarding yoga. This unique focus helps the students understand proper alignment for their individual bodies, as well as the foundation practices of yoga such as pranayama (breathing.) In a typical class we use yoga props and our own bodies to open tight areas, and class dialogue is welcome at all times.
Melisa's professional background was in the computer software industry, so she brings humor to the practice to help all of us alleviate the stress of our every day lives. Melisa is registered with Yoga Alliance, and in March of 2008 began the process of studying Yoga Therapy at the 500 hour level.
